Buxtehude, March 31, 2023 – Today marks the official end of ThermoPros (“Continuous Forming of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastic Profiles for Structural Applications”), a technical innovation project funded by the InterSpin program of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
As part of ThermoPros, a process for the production of thermoplastic CFRP components from multiaxial semi-finished products with subsequent continuous forming was developed in collaboration with 13 German and Japanese partners.
CarbonTT has carried out tests in the field of 2D and 3D secondary forming of organic sheets and investigated joining techniques for thermoplastic FRP components. Various processes were investigated, such as ultrasonic welding, the application of additive structures as load introduction in combination with inserts or direct screw connections, and joining with adhesives from the automotive sector. The results of the research are promising and open up new possibilities for the application of structural thermoplastic FRP components in various fields.
CarbonTT sees the conclusion as an important milestone in the joint international research work and thanks all partners involved for the good cooperation and especially the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the support.
